My family doesn’t have a belief in ghost. I believe in them, just simply because there’s so much proof out there that they exist. I think ghost are very fascinating, and have some sort of purpose; why else would they exist? I’m not sure about where you could find them, but I know there are many places, like abandoned houses, and even occupied houses. The most common place for a ghost, most people would think..is a grave yard.I’ve never seen a ghost, but I would like to..maybe.
There has been superstitions about ghost and their existence for many centuries. For example: Horseshoe must be put over the door to ward off evil spirits, An astrological almanac on the table, a bowl of cream set out for fairies nightly, stockpile of charms to ward off ghosts and witches, no whistling after dark. There were many beliefs that guided day-to-day behavior and activities of people: if you fell from your horse, you would carefully note the day and hour of the fall as an unlucky time to ride.
There were many explanations of a
ghostly visitation during Shakespeare’s time. A ghost could be . . .
*a hallucination brought about by stress, poor diet, or exhaustion.
*a specter seen as a portent or omen
*a spirit of a dead person returned to perform some deed left undone in life
*a spirit of a dead person returned from the grave or from purgatory by divine permission *an angel disguised as a dead person, or a devil disguised as a dead person to tempt a living relative into eternal damnation
(the Protestant position taught to Hamlet and Horatio at Wittenberg)
